Northmark is owned and operated by Ian Starks, based in a modern, well-equipped workshop in Lincolnshire. Ian was college trained as a furniture and cabinet maker and after qualifying has gained well over 25 years experience working in the furniture and allied trades. Much of Ian’s work over the years has been destined for clients in the Middle East, Japan and North America.
He has a wealth of experience in designing and crafting fine woodwork by hand in all styles and finishes ranging from Period through to Contemporary. His skills include traditional areas such as veneered and inlaid work and French polishing alongside more modern techniques such as painted finishes. Ian is also skilled in the repair and restoration of damaged furniture and has wide knowledge of making or replacing specialised, bespoke joinery, including repairs to period property and listed buildings.
One of Ian’s more recently developing specialities is in railway preservation work where he has already undertaken a number of highly skilled restoration or new construction projects on heritage railways.
